What did Meta's ad ranking change mean for dealer inventory ads?

Meta's new ad engine, called Andromeda, rewards advertisers who give it more creative and more variety. For dealers, the old play was a handful of ads and tight targeting. Creative is the new targeting. A store that runs one ad for each unit in stock is giving Meta many different creatives by definition.

What did Meta change?

Meta calls its new ad engine Andromeda. In plain English, Meta's new ad engine rewards advertisers who give it more creative and more variety.

What was the old play for dealer inventory ads?

A handful of ads and tight targeting. A store picked a few hero units or the monthly offer, built an ad or two, and put its effort into audiences: radius, age, interests, retargeting lists. The creative sat unchanged for weeks while someone tweaked the targeting.

What does "creative is the new targeting" mean for a dealer?

A store that gives Meta three ads gives it three options. A store with a separate ad for the F-150, the CR-V, the Wrangler on the back row, and every other unit gives it dozens. Nobody outside Meta can tell you exactly how it weighs each ad, so treat any vendor who promises a specific cost drop with suspicion.

How many creatives does one ad per unit add up to?

A rooftop with 150 units on the ground has 150 different ads, each with its own photos, trim, miles, and price. The set changes as inventory moves: new arrivals add ads, price drops change them, sold units drop out. Most stores are nowhere near that. When we checked 302 franchised Minnesota rooftops in Meta's Ad Library in September 2026, 71 ran any video ad, and one ran video built around single stock units, on three cars.

What should a dealer check in their own account?

Open the Meta Ad Library, search your store's page, and count the active ads. Then count how many name a specific unit and price, and how many are video. Check when each one started running. If you find a few ads that haven't changed in a month, your account is still running the old play.

Common questions

Will more ads lower my cost per VDP view?

Nobody can promise that. What you can do is measure it. Make the change, then compare cost per VDP view and link clicks in your own ad account against the month before, over the same number of days.

Do I still need targeting?

Yes. Location still matters, because a view from a shopper three states away won't move metal. Keep the ads aimed at in-market shoppers within driving distance of your rooftop, and let the creative vary inside that area.

How does VinScroll fit the change?

It builds one video ad for each unit in your inventory feed, adds ads for new arrivals, rebuilds them when prices change, and takes them down when units sell. The ads run in your own Meta ad account, so you can see every creative and every number.
